Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (2017-2022)

Robert Reed became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal in 2017.

Lord Reed was born in the United Kingdom in 1956.  He studied at Edinburgh and Oxford Universities, and qualified as a member of the Scottish Bar in 1983 and of the English Bar in 1991.

Lord Reed served as a Judge in Scotland from 1998 to 2011, where he sat in the Outer House of the Court of Session from 1998 and was appointed to the (appellate) Inner House in 2008.  Lord Reed was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in 2011, and its Deputy President in 2018. In 2020, he succeeded Lady Hale as President of the Supreme Court. He is also a member of the panel of ad hoc judges of the European Court of Human Rights.

Lord Reed has been the Visitor of Balliol College, Oxford since 2011 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
