Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (1997-2015)

Sir Anthony Mason became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal in 1997.

Sir Anthony Mason was born in Australia in 1925. He graduated with a BA and LLB from the University of Sydney. He was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in 1951 and appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1964. From 1964 to 1969, he served as the Commonwealth Solicitor-General.

In 1969, Sir Anthony Mason was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, where he sat as a member of the Court of Appeal until 1972. In 1972, he was appointed to the Bench of the High Court. From 1987 to 1995, he served as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.

Sir Anthony Mason received a CBE in 1969, a KBE in 1972 and an AC in 1988. He also received honorary degrees from the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales, and from Sydney, Melbourne, Oxford, Monash, Griffith, Deakin and Hong Kong Universities. He was made an Honorary Bencher of Lincoln's Inn.

Sir Anthony Mason is an Honorary Life Member of the Hong Kong Bar Association. He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2013.
