Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (2006-2015)

Sir Thomas Gault became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal in 2006.

Sir Thomas Gault was born in New Zealand in 1938. He graduated with an LLM from Victoria University of Wellington in 1963. He was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1962 and became a Registered Patent Attorney in 1963. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984 and became a Member of the Privy Council in 1992. He became an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple in 2003.

Sir Thomas Gault was appointed a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand in 1987 and a Judge of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand in 1991. In 2002, he was appointed President of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand. From 2004 to 2006, he served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. He also served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Fiji from 2002 to 2005.

Sir Thomas Gault was created a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2002, and was redesignated a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2009.  He died in 2015.
