Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (2000-2009)

Sir Thomas Eichelbaum became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in 2000.

Sir Thomas Eichelbaum was born in Germany in 1931. He obtained an LLB from Victoria University College in 1954. From 1958 to 1978 he was a litigation partner with Chapman Tripp & Co. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1978. In 1980 - 82 he was President of the New Zealand Law Society.

In 1982, Sir Thomas Eichelbaum was appointed a Judge of the New Zealand High Court. From 1989 to 1999, he served as the Chief Justice of New Zealand.

Sir Thomas Eichelbaum was knighted in 1989, and appointed to the Privy Council the same year.

Sir Thomas Eichelbaum passed away in 2018.
