Former Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal (2003-2009)

Sir Ivor Richardson became a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in 2003.

Sir Ivor Richardson was born in New Zealand in 1930. He obtained an LLB from the University of Canterbury in 1949, and an LLM and SJD from the University of Michigan. He was a Partner of Messrs Macalister Brothers from 1957 to 1963. From 1963 to 1966, he was Crown Counsel in the Crown Law Office in Wellington. From 1967 to early 1973 he was Professor of Law at Victoria University of Wellington and Dean of the Law Faculty from 1968 to 1971. From 1973 to 1977, he was a Partner of Messrs Watts & Patterson.

In 1977, Sir Ivor Richardson was appointed a Judge of the New Zealand High Court. In the same year, he was appointed a Judge of the New Zealand Court of Appeal. From 1996 to 2002, he served as the President of the New Zealand Court of Appeal.

Sir Ivor Richardson was knighted in 1986. He died in 2014.
